Patented bulge tube technology
The updated Anaconda Lobe-Tendon uses our patented bulge tube wave energy technology. The unique technology harnesses energy from the ocean waves by the amplification of internal bulge waves as they travel along the length of the natural rubber tube.
The device can be built in various lengths to match wave climates and can operate individually or as a group of units. In future the Anaconda Lobe-Tendon could provide power to island communities, off-shore infrastructure and the grid.
A significant design update in 2020 resulted in the Lobe-Tendon Anaconda (patent no. GB2112123.1) which provides significant improvements in maintainability, manufacturability, and affordability of the device.
Elastomeric design built to last in harsh marine environments
Unlike many wave energy devices built from large, costly, rigid structures, the Anaconda Lobe-Tendon's flexible design uses less material per unit of power. This not only reduces costs but also takes advantage of rubber’s natural compliance and proven durability in harsh marine environments.
Ready to power the future
After 16 years of intensive research and development, Anaconda Lobe-Tendon is progressing towards a 1/4 scale sea trial.
The Anaconda R&D programme has resulted in significant improvements since 2020, reducing the required material by over 70%, protecting key components from the marine environment, and mitigating key identified risks, all the while maintaining the performance characteristics of the original concept. Tank testing at 1/25 scale has demonstrated exciting energy output moving the Anaconda Lobe-Tendon one step closer to ocean trials.
